The Daily Catch | Fishing Report – February 2024
Hey there, fellow anglers! As we gear up for spring break, we’ve been enjoying the cooler weather and the fantastic fishing conditions it brings to Clearwater Beach, Florida. This time of year, we’re focused on capitalizing on the Hogfish bite, and they’ve been especially active with the cooler water temperatures.
Targeting Hogfish: Patience, Live Shrimp & Light Tackle
The Hogfish bite has been exceptional lately, but landing these fish requires some patience and finesse. We recommend longer trips (8-10 hours) for those wanting to target Hogfish, as they’re tricky to hook and prefer live shrimp or other crustaceans. Using light tackle with live shrimp has proven successful, though these fish always keep us guessing! If you’re up for the challenge, the reward is well worth it.
Nearshore Variety: Snapper, Sea Bass & More
In addition to Hogfish, we’re seeing a variety of species on our nearshore trips (4-6 hours), including Lane Snapper, Grey Snapper, Porgy, and Sea Bass. We’ve also encountered some short Red Grouper, which add to the fun even though they’re not quite keepers. With the warmer days of March approaching, we expect the pelagic action to heat up as well!
