The Daily Catch | Fishing Report – October 2023
October has brought a mix of weather to the Gulf of Mexico, with a few cold fronts stirring up some wind. While the breezy conditions have kept us on our toes, we’ve been able to get out on the water and enjoy some fantastic fishing as we transition into the fall season.
Gag Grouper & Hogfish: Fall Fishing at Its Best
As the temperatures begin to cool, Gag Grouper are starting to make their presence known. With the seasonal shift, the bite for these prized fish has really picked up, and we’ve been able to reel in some impressive catches from shallow water. If you’re looking for a challenge and a big catch, Gag Grouper are always a rewarding target.
We’ve also been spotting Hogfish this month, adding some variety to our bottom fishing adventures. Known for their delicious taste and distinctive appearance, Hogfish have been a highlight for anglers looking to catch something a little different this fall.
Shorter Trips: Steady Action with Panfish & Mackerel
On our shorter 4-6 hour trips, fishing has been steady, with plenty of action throughout the day. Panfish like Grey Snapper and Porgy have been coming in consistently, providing plenty of bites and making for a fantastic meal after your day on the water.
Trolling for Spanish Mackerel has also been productive, with plenty of these sleek predators hitting the line. We’ve even had a few Kingfish show up, although they have not been as abundant. As the fall season progresses, we expect the Kingfish run to pick up, promising more excitement and a chance to reel in some bigger fish in the coming weeks.
