Clearwater Beach Fishing Report – August 2026
August 2026 Fishing Highlights: Offshore fishing out of Clearwater Beach has been producing a great mix of red snapper, red grouper, mangrove snapper, lane snapper, Key West grunts, Spanish mackerel, barracuda, and other Gulf species. Our 10 and 12-hour fishing charters continue to offer the best opportunity for red snapper and red grouper, while 4-8 hour trips have been seeing plenty of action and variety closer to shore.
August has been another great month of fishing here in Clearwater Beach. The summer heat is definitely here, and as we move into the peak of Florida’s rainy season, the weather has kept us watching the radar and working around storms. When Mother Nature gives us the window, though, the fishing has been worth it.
From big red snapper and red grouper offshore to some impressive mangrove snapper and Key West grunts on our shorter trips, the bite has stayed strong throughout the month.
Red Snapper & Red Grouper Offshore
Our 10 and 12-hour trips have continued to get the job done this August.
Red snapper and red grouper are both still open, giving us the opportunity to target two of our favorite Gulf species on the same trip. These longer trips allow us to run farther offshore, cover more ground, and spend more time working productive bottom.
Red grouper fishing has remained strong, and we’ve continued putting some beautiful fish in the box. The red snapper bite has also kept our crews busy, along with a variety of other snapper and bottom species mixed in throughout the day.
Every trip is different, but having that additional time and range on a 10 or 12-hour charter can make a big difference when targeting these offshore fish.
Plenty of Action on Our 4-8 Hour Trips
You definitely don’t need to spend an entire day offshore to get in on the action.
Our 4-8 hour trips have been full of different species this month, and lately we’ve been seeing some huge mangrove snapper and Key West grunts. The bite has been great, with plenty of opportunities to keep the rods bent and see what comes up next.
Depending on the day, we can mix bottom fishing with trolling to target a variety of species. Mangrove snapper, lane snapper, Key West grunts, Spanish mackerel, bonita, barracuda, porgies, sea bass, and other reef fish can all make an appearance.
These trips continue to be a great option for families, beginners, younger anglers, or anyone who wants to experience offshore fishing in Clearwater Beach without committing to a full-day trip.
Working Around the Summer Weather
We’re officially getting into the peak of Florida’s rainy season, which means weather has been something we’ve had to work around throughout August.
Summer storms can develop quickly, and conditions can look completely different from one part of the day to the next. Our captains are constantly watching the weather and making decisions based on the conditions we’re seeing.
Fortunately, we’ve still had plenty of great weather windows this month and have been able to take advantage of them. The fish certainly haven’t seemed bothered by the rain, and when we’ve been able to get offshore, the bite has been great.
Gag Grouper Opens September 1st
September 1st is right around the corner, and we’re especially excited about the return of gag grouper season.
Gag grouper are one of our favorite fish to target because they make you work for every inch of line. They fight hard, especially in shallower water, and the real challenge is turning them before they can get back into the rocks. Once a big gag decides it wants to head for cover, you’d better be ready!
That fight is exactly what makes catching one so rewarding.
With gag grouper joining red snapper and red grouper, September is shaping up to offer some awesome opportunities offshore. For anglers who really want to target grouper and take advantage of the different seasons, we recommend giving yourself the additional range and fishing time of a 10-12 hour trip.
We’ve been looking forward to September, and we’re ready to see some big gags hit the deck.
Marina Update – Getting Closer!
Back at the Clearwater Beach Marina, things are moving along quickly.
It has been exciting watching the progress of construction, and every day gets us a little closer to finally settling into our forever slip. There is still work happening around the marina, but it’s great to see everything continuing to come together.
We’re looking forward to the day we can officially call our new slip home!
Looking Ahead to September
August has given us another great month of fishing, and we’re heading into September with plenty to look forward to.
Red snapper and red grouper have kept our longer trips busy, the shorter trips have been producing a great variety of fish, and gag grouper season is almost here. Throw in some big mangrove snapper, Key West grunts, and whatever other surprises the Gulf decides to send our way, and there are plenty of reasons to get out on the water.
