The Daily Catch | Fishing Report – August 2024

August has certainly been one for the books here in Clearwater Beach, Florida! With unbelievable weather and smooth seas, we’ve enjoyed ideal fishing conditions that have made this month a huge success. The cooler, overcast days have provided the perfect environment for some unforgettable trips, wrapping up our 2024 Red Snapper season on a high note.

Offshore Fishing: The Deep Sea Delivers
On our longer 10-12 hour offshore trips, we’ve been making the most of the calm seas, heading 40-60 miles offshore to target Red Snapper, Mangrove Snapper, Vermillion Snapper, and Lane Snapper. Our coolers have been full of a beautiful variety of colorful fish, with the majority of our success coming from dead cut bait on the bottom. Live bait has occasionally brought in a bite, but dead bait has been the key to filling up the cooler.

For those looking for an overnight adventure, our Snapper charters around the full moon were productive, with an abundance of Yellowtail Snapper making their way into the boat. The action didn’t stop there—while we were fishing the bottom, we kept the flatline out, which resulted in some great pelagic bites. We’ve hooked into Blackfin Tuna, Kingfish, and even some decent-sized Mahi-Mahi. But the real thrill came when targeting bigger bites around offshore wrecks, especially Amberjack. These powerful fish have been responding well to live pinfish and other offerings like jigs or trolling plugs.

Nearshore Trips: Fun for All Ages
For those who prefer a shorter trip, our nearshore outings (4, 6, and 8 hours) have been just as productive. We’ve been landing a wide range of fish while bottom fishing and trolling, including Key West Snapper, Mangrove Snapper, Lane Snapper, Porgy, Sea Bass, and smaller Grouper. With depths ranging between 40 and 60 feet, these trips are perfect for beginners or families looking to spend quality time on the water with plenty of fish action.
