The Daily Catch | Fishing Report – April 14, 2023
Spanish mackerel action near shore is increasing, with more feeding along beaches, artificial reef structures, and larger natural bottom areas. Kingfish action is also good around 40 to 80 feet of water and beyond, caught while trolling and flat line fishing. Lane snapper action is good near shore, particularly on all day trips, and they love small pieces of cut squid, or cut thread fins.
The hogfish action near shore is still ongoing but has slowed down somewhat due to warmer water temperatures. The hogfish tend to spread out and become more difficult to catch with high success using hook and line when the water is warmer. However, live shrimp on lighter tackle with minimal weight on small ledges or flat hard bottom is still the best way to target them.
Mangrove snapper bite is also consistent with small chunks of threadfin. The red grouper bite is good in deeper waters around 70 to 100 feet, caught using live pinfish, larger strips of squid, or whole thread fins with the tail cut.
Offshore fishing is also picking up, seeing scamp grouper, red grouper, strawberry grouper, blackfin tuna and kingfish.
